Carpet Shampooers – How Do They Work?

At some point in our lives we will most likely need to clean a carpet. Whether it is a small area rug or an entire household of carpet, one of the most common and effective choices of how to clean, is the carpet shampooer. Though the directions on these machines may explain how to make the carpet shampooer work they inevitably will not tell us how and why the machine does what it does, leaving us half-educated and probably frustrated in the end when the shampooer will not work as intended.
To understand the machine that most of us use to clean our homes we must understand the basic principles behind cleaning our carpets. To end up with a clean looking and feeling carpet a person must; loosen dirt from the fibers in the bottom of the carpet, move the dirt to the top of the carpet piles, and lastly remove the dirt and grime to end up with our wonderfully clean carpets.
Carpet Shamppooing
Most carpet shampooers use a tank of cleaning solution that is directed to a row of brushes that agitate the shampoo into the carpet. Then depending on the model that is being used, the solution either must sit for a couple of hours to a couple of days, insuring the maximum absorption of dirt and must be vacuumed up or the machine will actually have a vacuum built in, and use a cleaner that will absorb the dirt and can be immediately vacuumed up.
Carpet shampooers start with the chemicals that they use to clean. The shampoo must be a very foamy stable solution. The more foamy the solution the less water can be used and the faster the carpets will dry after cleaning. Due be careful though, a common misunderstanding when cleaning carpets is the amount of shampoo to be used. Most logically assume that the more shampoo used the cleaner the carpets will get, but this is not necessarily what will be achieved. With more shampoo on the carpet, then of course, there is more shampoo to remove. If too much cleaner is used then the result will be that there will a residue left on the carpet which will in turn actually attract and hold more dirt!
The most important step of carpet shampooing is insuring that all of the shampoo is removed from the carpet. With regular cleanings and the knowledge of how and why you are sure to be pleased with clean carpets for years to come.
