Review Of Bissell Carpet Shampooer
by Ryan
When you have a big family like mine you will find that the carpet is a magnet for every drink and plate of food that is served throughout the day. Though we observe a no shoes in the house policy, my carpet is always dirty and badly stained. After paying for a professional cleaning several times year and not getting great results I finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase a do it your self cleaner.
I priced the different models at my local Target and Wal-Mart and finally settled on the Bissell Carpet Shampooer. It felt like an expensive purchase to me but compared to other models, it was a good deal. Plus if you figure I would get my carpet professionally done twice a year and pay $125.00 each time, my Bissell will pay for itself in just one year.

Using the shampooer seemed like a daunting task at first but I was very pleasantly surprised that it was a lot easier than I had thought it would be. Add water, detergent and you are ready to begin. Ten rows of cleaning bristles and a water heating button offer a deep cleaning and great stain removal. If I used cool water only I don’t think I would have had such great results.
There is an assortment of hand tools that will help you with hard to reach areas such as the stairs and corners. With the attachments you can also do your couches, chairs and even mattresses. This excited me very much, as having a 2 year old we have had a lot of accident happen on our bed so that was the first thing I washed. I used warm water and went over the stains a couple of times, the results where almost invisible stains and a nice fresh scent.
I found very few draw backs to the Bissell Carpet Shampooer. One of the issues being the size, if you have to carry it upstairs it’s pretty heavy and a bit bulkier than a regular vacuum. The other problem would be the price of the detergent. If you want to use your shampooer regularly you will have to spend quite a bit on the detergent.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase. I am now able to do my carpets once a month and that helps maintain them cleaner. The whole house feels fresher and looks more inviting and comfortable.

I just thought it would be relevant to let those who are interested in Bissell carpet cleaners know that Bissell recently launched a rental site called Bissell Rental. Bissell deep cleaning machines can now be rented in many Lowe’s locations – visit Bissellrental.com for more information!
At first purchase I would agree with this review but I am now on my third Bissell ProHeat and every single one has broken within a year with a full use of about once every other month. I know . . . why did I keep buying them? Because at first it works really well and then the water sprayer for the main bladder just stops working. As of today I am throwing out my third one. Going to try a different brand this time.
I have owned a Bissell shampooer for the last 4 years, it has been back to the factory for repair once and has now broken down again. Problem is poor bearings causing plastic to melt into the bearing followed by seizure of the brush roller. I have used it probably no more than a dozen times on short pile carpet in my kitchen (about 6 sq mts)plus other small areas where spillage has occurred. Next stop the dump. My opinion is, it’s the biggest waste of money ever spent on a domestic appliance, and to think I gave away a Numatic Charles in favour of this flashy pile of junk. Come back Charles, all is forgiven.
